Abler vs TeamFeePay

Abler vs TeamFeePay: how the two compare for clubs and trusts

TeamFeePay is built for grassroots football fee collection and has the County FA relationships to match. Abler is built for organisations that also have to report to funders, run more than one programme, and prove impact.

Modelled on a TeamFeePay rate of 4.25% + 20p per transaction and Abler at 1.95% + £0.35 plus a £50 per month licence. TeamFeePay does not publish its rates, so treat that figure as a modelled assumption and confirm your own quote. Fee collection rates, VAT and admin hours saved are excluded.

Where the gap appears

A funder asks for participation data by postcode and demographic.

TeamFeePay reports on payments. Grant reconciliation, EDI breakdowns, and social value reporting are a different category of output. The data has to come off the registration record, which means it either exists from day one or it gets estimated at the deadline.

You start running holiday camps, a disability session, and a walking football group.

Fee collection built around football teams does not stretch easily to mixed activity types and multi-programme delivery. Each new strand arrives with its own budget, its own participants, and its own spreadsheet.

Safeguarding gets raised at a committee meeting.

Communication safeguarding needs to be designed in, not bolted on. If coach to parent contact happens on personal phone numbers, there is nothing to review when a question is asked.

When we would tell you to stay where you are

If you are a single-sport grassroots football club, your County FA relationship matters to you, and you have no funder to report to, TeamFeePay is a good fit and the case for switching is weak.

Why organisations switch to Abler

Seven reasons clubs and trusts give when they move from a fee collection tool to an operating system.

01

A public booking storefront, not just a payment link

Abler Shop gives you a branded page where holiday camps, disability sessions, tots classes and facility hire all sit alongside core subscriptions. Parents book and pay in the same place, and every booking arrives as a participant record rather than a bank transfer to reconcile.

02

Fee collection built to chase itself

Payment plans, retries, reminders and arrears chasing run automatically, with escalation to the right coach or administrator. The point is not that the money arrives once, it is that nobody spends Monday evenings finding out who has not paid.

03

Transaction fees that fall as you grow

1.95% + £0.35 as standard, with rates reviewed at volume. On six-figure collection the gap against a 4%-plus rate is the difference between a funded coaching post and a line in the accounts.

04

One operating system across the whole organisation

Registrations, payments, scheduling, attendance, participant records, safeguarding status and reporting sit in one database. Multi-site trusts run separate programmes and separate bank accounts without separate spreadsheets.

05

Funder and EDI reporting that comes out of the registration record

Participation by postcode, age, gender, ethnicity and disability, tied to the funded programme that paid for it. Because it is captured at registration, the report is produced rather than reconstructed.

06

Social feed and messaging in the same place as the schedule

Squad announcements, fixture changes and session cancellations go out from the record they relate to, so the message and the register never disagree.

07

End-to-end implementation, not a login and a help centre

A named implementation team handles data migration, payment plan transfer and coach training. Smaller clubs go live in two to four weeks, multi-site organisations in six to eight.

Frequently asked questions

What does switching from TeamFeePay actually cost?

There is no migration fee. The cost is the Abler licence from £50 per month and the internal time to check your participant data before it moves across. Existing TeamFeePay payment plans run to their end date, so you are not paying twice for the same collection.

What does TeamFeePay still do better?

County FA integration. TeamFeePay automates FA fine handling and has the County FA relationships behind it, which Abler does not replicate. For a single-sport grassroots football club with no funder to report to, that is a real advantage and the case for switching is weak.

Is Abler overkill for a small club?

If you collect subs and nothing else, yes. Abler starts to pay for itself when a second programme, a funded project or a facility hire line appears, because that is the point at which a payment tool stops holding the whole picture.

How long does migration take?

Two to four weeks for a single-site club, six to eight for a multi-site organisation. A named implementation team handles participant data, payment plan transfer and coach training, and mid-season moves are common.

What is the difference between fee collection and club management?

Fee collection makes sure the money arrives. Club management is everything the money is attached to: registrations, programmes, attendance, participant records, and the reporting built on top of them. TeamFeePay does the first job well, with a 99.4% published collection rate. Abler is built for when the second job has become somebody’s full-time work.

Does TeamFeePay do funder reporting?

TeamFeePay reports on payments. Grant reconciliation, EDI breakdowns by postcode and demographic, and social value reporting are a different category of output and are not documented on their public pages.
